Partners in ParanormYA Blog Tour AND Teaser Tuesday

Partners in ParanormYA Blog Tour

Today is a first for me as I have invited two busy ladies to my site Angela Brown and Gwen Gardner. Angela and Gwen have joined together to publicizhttp://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=1438439512128114594#editor/target=post;postID=7204366662880013604e the release of their new books Givin’ Up The Ghost and Neverlove.

This is the first time I have invited anyone to answer a few questions to post on my Blog. So, I hope you enjoy the interesting answers these ladies gave to my first interview!

First let's extend a warm welcome to Gwen Gardner:

Gwen, will you please share a little bit about yourself?
Thanks, Carolyn. I’m a late bloomer, so to speak. When I was growing up, college was for rich kids, so I never even considered it. I spent years in mortgage lending, and when I was laid off in a downturn, my husband suggested I go to college. I graduated when I was 41. It opened a whole new world - writing. Now, at 52, I’m publishing my first book.

What inspired you to create a partnership with Angela?
I had been a follower of Angela’s for quite a while (lol, why does that sound cultish?). I particularly visited a lot during the A-Z because I really enjoyed her Abby and Basil blog opera. And of course, if you know Angela, then you know how warm and genuine she is. We got to talking about being critique partners, and when I mentioned I was going to self-publish soon, the whole partnership just sort of evolved from there.

Since developing the partnership what have you learned about Angela?
Angela is the most awesome idea generator! Also, it’s not often you get to actually speak to blogging friends, but Angela and I have spoken several times on the phone. Her voice is just as warm and kind as the impression you get from her blogging persona.

Please share a little about your new book you have released?
Givin’ Up The Ghost is a young adult paranormal “cozy” mystery. Indigo Eady, the MC, is a ghost whispering psychometry-reading, psychic whose “gifts” continually backfire, resulting in a number of mishaps.

Would you like to share a blurb or an excerpt?
Here’s the end of the first chapter, the scene that really kicks off the focus of the book:

Blood rushed to my head and roared in my ears, like a dam bursting its seams. I started to remember things, like Badger’s father had gone missing, possibly ran away with his secretary. That’s why Badger hadn’t been around lately, he was helping take care of his siblings and now the pub. And sitting here on the end barstool in the Blind Badger was the missing Bart Bagley.
Correction. The missing, dead, Bart Bagley.
Oh Crap.

Which character would you choose as you’re favourite and why?
Indigo is definitely my favorite. She’s sweet, caring, witty - and more than a little accident prone.

Gwen, where do we find your new book and how can we connect with you?

Thank you, Carolyn, for hosting us today!

Thanks Gwen, for sharing your answers with us, now let's give a warm welcome to Angela:

Angela would you like to explain to my readers why you decided to be a writer?
Sure, Carolyn.  I know it’s cliché.  But writing has always been a dream, one that I didn’t pursue until I was blessed with my little girl.  I wanted her to know that it was important to strive for her dreams yet I hadn’t done so myself.  So, instead of talking the talk, I decided to walk the walk and pursue writing seriously.

How did you meet/ or connect with Gwen?
We connected online.  I originally remember friending her as a blog on the Writer’s Platform Building Campaign then continuing to follow and comment at her blog.

What sparked the partnership for you?
It was August 2nd.  She and I were e-mailing back and forth about the possibility of me critiquing Givin’ Up The Ghost because I was interested and offered to do so.  She mentioned wanting it done so she could try to self-publish her novel around the first of October, this year.  Well, I’d be leaning – strongly – to self-publish Neverlove and mentioned that it might be cool to self-publish and market together so we’d have each other to lean on.  Things took off from there.

Would you advise other authors to develop a similar partnership to you and Gwen to join forces in marketing?
Honestly, yes.  There are so many groups that gather to support each other, and that is what a partnership is all about.  You have at least one other person who understands what you’re going through with each step of the publication and marketing process.

Please share something from your new book which you believe your readers will connect with.
The main characters, Abby and Basil, are unique in the pains that lead to the changes in their lives and have unique voices.  Both will take the reader on an emotional ride as they deal with the changes in their lives.  In Basil’s case, it would be a not-so-alive-life J

Is there an excerpt from the book you would like to share with us?
I’d love to:  Here something from the first chapter ~
The following morning, sunshine filtered through her blinds and mottled her bedroom floor. The beautiful day beyond her window could not break the perfect storm that consumed Abigail. She struggled, pained in all the wrong places, and got out of bed. Glancing at her clock, she knew she had the house all to herself. She pressed a finger to her cheek and moaned at the soreness. Abigail trained all her thoughts on putting one foot in front of the other, leaning on the wall for support. She was determined to make it to her parents’ bathroom if it killed her.
Ironic, since that was her intent anyway.
Minutes passed to an hour when Abigail finally sank into her parents’ claw foot tub. Steam rose in white, smoky wisps from the water’s surface. Stinging warmth seeped into her skin, her pores taunted open by the heat. Just the thing to cleanse her father from her system. Release the filth of his still-lingering touch. Not that it would matter soon. After last night, she’d made up her mind. Seventeen wasn’t such a bad age to die.

So Angela, what is next for you?
More writing.  I have work to do on the sequel to Neverlove and quite a few other WiPs that have been waiting patiently for me to get some words added to them.

Please give details on where we can find you and your new book?

You don't want to ruin the book for others!

This week I have decided to give a Teaser from both books of the author's I have as guests on my Blog today Gwen Gardner and Angela Brown.

Teaser One:
I watched Simon as he processed the information. To say my revelation required digesting was an understatement. It’s not every day your best friend’s dad dies, someone who’d been a fixture in your life, and I’m sure Simon was reeling from this unfortunate news.

by Gwen Gardner

Purchase
Gwen Gardner’s Givin’ Up The Ghost at Amazon US and Amazon UK.

BLURB:

A modern day medieval village teeming with spirit activity is no place for sixteen-year-old psychic and ghost whisperer Indigo Eady. Not when all she wants is to forget about these supposed gifts. After all, when needed most, it didn’t help save her father.

After her father’s death, Indigo moves to a new town and has the chance to start over where nobody knows about her psychic abilities. Hiding her secret is easy until the ghost of Bart Bagley ruins everything by barging in and begging her to solve his murder. Tempted to ignore him, she only relents because he was the father of her new friend, Badger. That and the survivor’s guilt she feels over her own father’s death.

A murder investigation is hard enough without the disruption of interfering ghosts and a mysterious soul collector with her name topping its list. But when Indigo’s psychic abilities short-circuit, sparks start to fly in more than one direction. The resulting mishaps compromise the success of the investigation and put the budding but fragile attraction between Indigo and Badger at risk.

When the body count mounts and a suspect ends up dead, Badger becomes a “person of interest" and they must surge ahead to solve the murders before they become the next victims.

Teaser Two:
A light dizziness swam in her head. Won’t be much longer now. Each slip of her eyelids brought darkness, but re-opened to the world of the living. She let them close again, tensing at the metallic scent wafting beneath her nose. When she opened her eyes again, her heartbeat quickened. Her body shifted, splashing scarlet water onto the white tiled floor. Shadowy forms rose up from the pool surrounding her.

Man, I'm having a terrible time with blogger blogs lately ... especially commenting. Probably because computers hate me...

Anyway, it's awesome to see Gwen and Angela taking over the internet with their awesomeness and awesome books. :D
