The Alpha (The 13th Floor)

One run in the woods wouldn't matter, or so thinks werewolf Stefanie Porter. Being cooped up in her apartment for months has messed up her instincts, because her former pack almost catches her until a mysterious lone wolf jumps in to help Stefanie escape.

The cruel Alpha Wyatt not only stole her pack but refuses to give Stefanie her freedom. She can't hide in her apartment any longer or it will drive her crazy. She puts her trust in the lone wolf who can teach her some of his unusual urban survival tricks. James Roberts might be a bit geeky, but he's smart and looks hot when the argyle sweater comes off. His ridiculous ambition to become a superhero might be admirable if Wyatt couldn't rip him limb from limb.

With the pack scouring the city for her, Stefanie must convince James to teach her and control her own Alpha nature, or fight not only for her life, but his as well.
REVIEW:

This second book in Cristine Rains' 13th Floor Series, tells the story of Stephanie, a werewolf, who is running from her pack after a failed leadership challenge.

Running in desperation to escape, she senses a lone wolf, whose identity eludes her. He leads her through the bushland and helps her to fight off her pursuers, then shows her to safety.

This fast paced book about pack hierarchy and the power struggle of the Alphas' brings the next characters of the 13th Floor series.

Christine Rains is a talented writer and The Alpha is another story suitable to readers who enjoy their paranormal literature. Full of action and Stephanie's struggle to regain leadership of her pack, allows readers to connect with her plight and to be engaged in her battle. The Alpha, is a very well written story which young adult readers and adults would enjoy.

The Angel Genome

What if the legends of angels arose from an extinct human branch? Lucia doesn’t believe in angels — but she might believe in a little boy cloned from a forgotten race.

"The Angel Genome" is a complete short story excerpted from the anthology EXTINCT DOESN'T MEAN FOREVER.

REVIEW:

Lucy's ex-husband, Freddy, calls her with one more request - to visit the Genome Research Center to sign papers...

She finds her ex-husband has used her donated eggs to clone an Angel and a small, unusual boy named Zeph is waiting to meet her. Zeph has unique qualities and as soon as she meets him he identifies her as his mother.

This short tale by Chrystall Thoma left me wanting more. I was intrigued by the storyline, but just as the intrigue begins, the story ends and I found myself wanting more and I found myself feeling disappointed by the sudden end.

Ancient Blood (A Novel of the Hegemony)

Ancient blood
A Novel of the Hegemony

AN IMMORTAL LOVE
Avery Doyle loves vampires; he’s read every novel, seen all the movies, and researched the folklore. When his first one-night-stand, Caroline, turns out to be a true vampire on the run, he jumps at the chance to leave his ordinary life and join her as a “child of the night.”

The honeymoon ends, however, when Caroline’s brutal Creator Sebastian enslaves them on his island estate and Avery must confront the dehumanizing reality behind his dreams.

AN IMMORTAL ARISTOCRACY
In order to survive, Caroline and Avery take their place as servants in Sebastian’s household during a gathering of the most powerful vampires on Earth, the Hegemony, and soon find themselves involved in the myriad intrigues and deceptions that form the night-to-night existence of The Order.

A society of wealth, power, and inhuman decadence whose existence is protected by human complicity and disbelief, The Order is the immortal aristocracy hidden behind the giant corporations and political leaders of the world.

IN MORTAL DANGER
Sebastian, however, has a plan that will change The Order forever and shatter human civilization. To avoid this terrible fate, Avery and Caroline will not only have to defy the most powerful creatures on Earth, but also confront the darkest aspects of themselves. For in the world of the Hegemony, even victory may cost them their souls…

REVIEW:

Avery, is totally into vampires! On a one night stand he meets Caroline, who he is enthralled to learn is a true life vampire, who is on the run from her creator, Sebastian.

Caroline turns Avery and he joins her in her flight from Sebastian. Unfortunately their travels are short lived when Sebastian captures them and detains them both on his remote island.

To survive they become his slaves and are forced to play a game of life and death with members of the vampire elite.

Eventually, Caroline and Avery join forces with another on the island to  bring down Sebastian, his empire and the hierarchy vampire visiting the island.

This vampire tale by Brian P. McKinlay is quite unique, blood thirsty and brutal and Avery finds himself question his decision to become a vampire. Readers will be drawn into the fierce forces of the characters and Avery and Caroline's plight to survive.

Angelfire (Dark Angel #1)

Librarian Note: This is an alternate cover edition of ASIN # B00ABWN11C.

An adventurous fantasy of epic proportions…

Their warriors are the ungifted Earthborn angels armed with blades and the “borrowed magics” of distilled angel-blood tattoos.

Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. She trains harder than any other to prove she is nothing like her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues. Now that Alyx has begun to have visions, everything in her world is about to change. Lies will be uncovered − from death of the Archangel Raphael two thousand years ago to the truth about her parents. She will be betrayed. And she will be forced to risk everything for a mortal she barely knows.

A dark plan, a keye to unlock Hell, the lost pieces of an Amulet that controls Lucifer and his army… Join Alyx through the Dark Angel saga as she battles to stop Evil from fulfilling a prophecy that warns of the greatest war this Earth will ever know.

REVIEW:

Alyx, the female MC in Angelfire by Hannah Peach is a Light Warrior is one of the warrior class of Angels living in a Seraphim city who protect the mortal world.

When she finds herself bonded with the mortal, Israel, he life changes and she learns some sad truths about the Elder class, guiding their city. Michael and the other elders are not what they seem.

One elder, Myrekk, who is an outcast living alone on the outskirts of the city befriends her when she is sent to his home to collect herbs. Through this relationship she finds her path in life forever changed.

This long YA paranormal by Hannah Peach is an intriguing tale with a strong storyline with many twists. The characters are strong and Alex the female MC is fierce, determined warrior who brings the truth to light.

Readers will be immersed in her fight.

Affliction Z: Patient Zero

Something dark lurks in the wilds of Southern Nigeria. An experiment has gone horribly wrong and threatens to wipe all traces of humanity from Earth. 3rd Ranger Battalion, Bravo Company is sent in to assist, clean up the mess before it gets out of control.

They've vanished.

Sean Ryder is an Air Force Pararescueman. Attached to SEAL Team 8, he believes he is on a routine rescue and recovery mission. Less than half an hour after landing in Nigeria, he knows that is not the case. And the further his mission leads him, the harder it becomes to get out alive.

Patient Zero is the first book in the zombie apocalypse / post-apocalyptic series Affliction Z.
REVIEW:
This action packed book by L.T. Ryan shares a real possibility of a Zombie Apocalypse to life.

When MC Sean Ryder joins a special ops team delving into the depths of Southern Nigeria, he is lucky to escape with his life.

I would love to share more of this story but to do so would become a spoiler alert. With intense action from start to finish and a very in your face twist at the end, this story will have all zombie loves wanting more!

That's a lot of A books. I'll be sure to come back to see what's in store for X, Y, Z :) My daughter is also blogging books for her A to Z. She runs a kids blog, but didn't sign up officially since she is a bit hit or miss with her posts. I'm looking forward to adding to my TBR pile.
