Until Next Time (The Angel Chronicles, #1)

Until Next Time

  (The Angel Chronicles #1)

 THE BLURB:

How does a girl choose between the one who steals her heart and the one who owns her soul?

Matt and Emily were created for a specific job. Raised and trained as the ultimate angel/warrior team, they are sent down to save, defend, judge and forgive, depending on the 'life' they've been assigned. What they don't realize is that the power of human emotions, such as love, anger, passion and fear can take over even the best of souls, causing them to make mistakes and follow paths that lead to confusion and heartache.

When the reason for their training is finally revealed, the angel/warrior team find themselves thrust into a world they know nothing about. Matt takes over the life of Daniel, a young man with a great deal of baggage. Emily becomes Liz, a girl living in a remote village who relies on nothing more than her own strength to survive. A violent storm erupts one night, and framed in the window of Liz's establishment is a frightening face. Let in by the soul of a Good Samaritan, the two visitors bring with them a past full of secrets that could literally change an angel's path and a warrior's plans.

From murder to redemption, this angel/warrior team must find a way to keep the faith they have in each other in a world that's ripping them apart.

MY TEASER FOR THIS WEEK:

She’d reached down, taken his hand and led him quietly up the hill to the warmth of her small cabin. It was empty since her parents had passed away only five days before.

I WRITE FRIDAY#FLASH

Desire Unleashed From Within

 (570 word, Paranormal Romance)

by

Carolyn Brown

Looking into his dark eyes, I was transfixed by their one distinguishable feature, a shimmering light which seemed to radiate from them.  Being in such close proximity, as I was now, was the only way to actually be sure it even existed.

I had thought I’d seen this feature several times in the past, but could not be sure that it actually existed until now, too late to make this discovery and enable me to escape the overpowering force of this desirable male.

I stood numbly as his hands slid down my body to rest upon my hips as he gently coaxed me towards him.  Our gaze focused more intently upon one another as if both of us were in a trance.

I could not move.  I was totally under his control, aware of the events transpiring around me, but unable to intervene and help myself, as his spell enforced his will upon me.

His hands moved to grasp me tighter sending shivers of desire throughout my body.  Of course I had been attracted to this guy before now, but I did not know then, what I know about him now.  His worldly charm was what piqued my interest, but his unusual dark hair cropping his pale face and the muscles which rippled beneath his t-shirt, at his slightest move, had kept me intrigued.

Being honest with myself, he melted my heart and I was willing to give myself completely to him.

Standing here now, engulfed in his arms, gazing into his eyes, I was spellbound by more than his charm.

Suddenly, he reached up and gently stoked the side of my face, I could feel my knees buckle at this slightest touch, and as if by instinct he corrected his hold upon me to rectify my weakness, as I became unbalanced.

His eyes did not leave mine as his head moved closer to me, my lips parted awaiting his kiss, but I was sorely mistaken and disheartened as his head shifted to the side and he leaned further down to brush his mouth along my throat.  I sucked in a deep breath as I heard a ripping sound and felt the sharpness of the prick of his teeth as his mouth rested on the small of my neck.

I tried to move from his grasp, but found my body motionless, unable to obey my commands.  Whatever spell he had inflicted upon me, I was unable to break it as he opened his mouth and sank his teeth into the vein pulsing at the base of my throat.

I felt a sting as his teeth pierced my skin.  I tried to scream, to pull away from his grasp, but my attempts were futile.  As he began to draw deeper, I could feel the pull on my heart, as my blood was siphoned from me and panic began to rise within me.  Would I survive this attack, would he stop, what would become of me?

This was soon forgotten as another sensation took hold of me and I became sensually aroused by his bite.  My body went limp in his grasp as it tingled all over with desire. Lust for my attacker was beginning to overpower me and I wanted him more than I had ever wanted another.   His bite ended and I found myself swept away with passion, as he lifted me into his arms and carried me to his bed.

I know my TT last week was from the first book in this series by M. Pax, and as she has just released book two,
I thought that I would introduce the second book this week -

Here is my Tuesday Teaser from
Stopover at the Backworld's Edge

Craze examined her more carefully. Slits in her neck expanded then disappeared. Gills. A Water-breather? Supposed to be extinct, shit, they were the worst kind of Backworlder, if the rumors were true. They’d turn on anything if the advantage shifted right, cracking through their own children’s chests to steal their hearts if that would keep them alive longer. So the stories went. And what were those creepy shadowy things with her? A chill crept over Craze’s shoulders, souring his stomach, especially at the way she preened as if she had a right to take up space at his bar.

Pax, M.. Stopover at the Backworlds' Edge (Kindle Locations 262-266). M. Pax. Kindle Edition
.

I know this is a little big for a TT, but I really liked this paragraph!

Stopover
 at the
Backworlds' Edge

The sequel to The Backworlds is now available. Craze and his friends continue their adventures in Stopover at the Backworlds’ Edge. See what role chocolate plays in the galaxy this time.

The interstellar portal opens, bringing in a ship that should no longer exist. A battleship spoiling for a fight, yet the war with Earth ended two generations ago. The vessel drops off a Water-breather, a type of Backworlder thought to be extinct. She claims one of Craze’s friends is a traitor who summoned the enemy to Pardeep Station. A betrayal worse than his father’s, if Craze lives to worry about it.

If you haven’t read The Backworlds yet, it’s available as a free read from many outlets. See HERE for links.

I WRITE # FRIDAY FLASH

Maude's Inevitable End!

by

Carolyn Brown

A 400+ word Flash Fiction set in ancient times on a planet similar to Earth. The castle 'Maude' desperately endeavours to fend off their attackers, but unfortunately to no avail. This story is what played out through one man's eyes.

I can remember the gleam of the sword as it was raised above my assailants head, just before he struck down.  Its brilliant shine had mesmerized me and I had found myself, for those few short moments, captured by its beauty.  Unfortunately, that was all it took for my attacker to strike me down....

We had battled furiously for many hours fending off this interminable foe, who had broken through the fortress wall and stormed our barricades.

Overpowered by their sheer force and number, we had succumbed to their might.  Everyone, was fighting for their lives.  As I had tried to fend off my opposition, I noticed that even the women living under our protection here in Maude, had taken up arms and were also fighting our foe!  The children were helping in their own way too, by lending a hand.  They were tripping our enemy at any opportunity from hidden vantage points under carts and walls.

For one split second, I had been amused by a woman throwing a bucket full of some unknown waste, down from an upper story window, covering several of the enemy with filth, as the battle pressed on.

These images and more had passed before me as if I was watching them unfold in slow motion. Then I too, like my comrades before me,was overcome by the pain of my wound and I had collapsed slowly to the ground, adding to the crumpled heap.

I had lost count of the number I had struck down, but still they came.  The lines of soldiers continued to pour through the broken gates, in an endless stream.  I knew we would be overtaken by this strong opponent, but none of my fellow kinsmen would give up and allow them to take us without a fight!

Fallen bodies, blood and guts lined the courtyard until it had become hard to move freely to fight, without stumbling over a corpse. Now, with my fall, I would be joining the mounting pile.

As I gritted my teeth, awaiting the impact of my body to hit the ground I heard a large explosion ring out around me, and I knew this battle was now lost to not just me, but also my kinsmen!

The last thing I saw was the brightness of the light, the last thing I heard were the screams of the fallen, then my eyes fluttered and closed shut for the very last time and a gentle peace overcame me!

HERE ARE 10 HANGERS I HAVE CHOSEN:

  1. I had now come to the realization that after such a long time it was unlikely he was going to return….
  2. We were bound by more than just our emotions, our whole beings were meant to be together, forever….
  3.  “Yes, thanks Seb.”  I knew those words had a second meaning, one committing me to my promise.
  4. He was now going to take control of my life, whether under the banner of protection or love, it would be done his way…...
  5.  Relief escaped from me and I could feel the tension leaving me slightly, as one hurdle was now completed.
  6.  I took another long embrace before letting them head into the portal, following Auron into its depths with my eyes.
  7.  We walked the whole way back to the house in total silence, both of us contemplating our thoughts….
  8.  Exhaustion started to take hold of me and my eyes closed……
  9.  With our discussion finished, Julian stood and walked from the room, leaving me to dwell on the news he had presented.
  10.  Would I ever be able to retrieve my missing daughter and bring her home to safety?

The Backworlds (Book 1)

by
After the war with Earth, bioengineered humans scatter across the Backworlds. Competition is fierce and pickings are scant. Scant enough that Craze’s father decides to hoard his fortune by destroying his son. Cut off from family and friends, with little money, and even less knowledge of the worlds beyond his own, Craze heads into an uncertain future. Boarding the transport to Elstwhere, he vows to make his father regret this day.

Here is the Teaser!

He listened to unfamiliar languages, heard the squawk of traffic, and the shrill signals directing it. Doors slammed. People shouted and laughed. They pushed past him, rushing, kicking up the air that was dryer and more sour than Siegna’s. He didn’t taste as many nutrients in it. The coveralls were slow to compensate. His heart pumped harder, his blood flowed faster. His steps faltered.

HERE ARE 10 HOOKERS I HAVE CHOSEN
FROM MY CURRENT WIP
THE SECOND BOOK IN THE PROTECTOR SERIES
TITLED: HE CAME FOR MINE

TO BE RELEASED THIS OCTOBER

  1. Seb brushes his hand slowly along my throat and moves it downwards to gently cup my breast, before kissing me deeply on the lips.

  2. I went to Wednesday training expecting to meet up with Ryan, but I was disappointed when another trainer took the class.

  3. I stood in the small yard and looked up at the light shining through the windows of Jazz’s apartment and tried to control my emotions and stop myself from running up and barging into the room!

  4. I watched as Jazz spent the morning with Ryan and I stood far enough away from their quiet conversation, so that I was not noticed, as they sat together in the park.

  5. A week went by as we selfishly indulged ourselves in our relationship, repairing the damage that had been done, when there was a knock upon the door.

  6. Days passed by and our new family group, Bliss, Xavier, Zane, Grayson and I, bonded together well.

  7. I was in the newly decorated room, my new haven, when Bliss found me.

  8. “Look up there, look she’s there!” someone called.

  9. I woke early and lay in bed savouring the feeling of Seb’s body pressing up against me.

  10. The next day I had arranged for Jazz and myself to spend time with Auron and Yolanda at ‘The Sanctuary’.

I WRITE # FRIDAY FLASH

Beasts of Terror

by
Carolyn Brown

A Paranormal Flash Fiction piece, set in a Fantasy world (700 words approx.), where unknown monsters tear apart the lives of the innocent.  One man survives and struggles to find others.

The sky seemed angry as the multitude of lightning strikes danced across the darkness.  Nolan had seen our enemy drive their forces against us in his vision, but we did not listen, we ignored his warnings and had laughed in mockery with our leader at his pleas.

I now wish I would have listened and taken heed.  I would not be standing here amongst this devastation if the king had only listened and acted upon Nolan's words.  if he had given orders for our armies to be ready for the onslaught that over took us, we might have had a chance.  But no, it was not to be.  Poor Nolan, for his troubles he had been beheaded and his words of warning laughed upon.

Now, as the heavens open and a heavy down pour of rain sheds its fury onto our lands, I wish I could turn back time.  But alas, that cannot be.

The water starts to build and begins gushing by me as I hide from our enemy, in the shadows of our once magnificent buildings.  It pools at my feet and I can see that the blood of my kin has been mixed into the swirling mass.  If I stay here, I will soon be swept away with the emerging current, as it quickly tears a path through the already torn city, much like our enemy before the storm.

They were ruthless and inhuman, with the strength of ten men.  Impossible to kill.  Their thirst for blood, endless and unstoppable.  I had seen human throats being torn out with bear teeth, in front of my eyes, ripped apart in just seconds with not so much as a second glance from the enemy, as they searched for their next victim.

The onslaught had been madness.  As if in a dream, I had fended off many, but was soon overcome by the sheer force of their numbers and strength, and along with a handful of my comrades, I had fled from the battle.  A small band of us survivors, were now hiding from the enemy, hoping not to be detected by any of these inhuman beasts as we scavenged the outskirts of our once beautiful city, trying to survive, while gathering as much knowledge as we could about our foe.

We had learned that after the battle they had preyed upon the flesh of our fallen, tearing bodies apart in an animal frenzy, as they jostled with each other over the remains of each victim.  Heartless, human flesh eating monsters!  We had no name for them.  We knew not where they came from, but they were now part of this world's existence and we needed to learn their weaknesses, if we were to survive.

I wondered if ours was the only city to be attacked or if our nearby neighbouring settlements had also been destroyed.  We had no means at our disposal to find out.  The only way was to journey to the next town on foot, while trying not to be detected by the beasts, a hard task, but not an impossible one.  This was a risk I was willing to take, as I could see no future to be had trying to live here amongst the rubble.

I decided to venture west and head towards Hawthorne, it was the closest of our neighbouring towns.  Carefully treading through the underbrush, keeping to the shadows, I made my way across the land. I walked continuously for days, finding berries and fruits on the trees to sustain my hunger and drinking from the clear flowing streams as I slowly forged ahead.

It was hard to tell if the enemy had been there before me, I could see no sign of their intrusion.  It wasn't until I came close to the outskirts of the town, that I could tell it had also been demolished.  My heart sank.  Our ferocious enemy had fed and left, leaving behind another empty shell of a once bustling township.

My only option now was to continue on to the next town and hope that it had not also been attacked, but I was now certain my world would soon perish at the hand of these beasts and we would be unable to halt them.

NEWS UPDATE

I thought that I would just create a short post to let you all know a few interesting tit bits of information I have either come across or decided upon this past week, while I have been convalescing from taking a fall at work.  Nothing serious just a few bruises and bumps and a sprained ankle.

  • Firstly, and most importantly, I have completed the first draft of the second book in The Protector Series, titled He Came For Mine!

  •  Now I will be busy editing.

  •  I have been searching the blogging world looking for a way to showcase what and how I write in some way.  This flame was lit by Ali Cross during her very helpful   personal branding consultation exercise, which she generously extended to me through her 1000 follower competition win.
Ali suggested that I should commit to writing a post each week, where my followers
would have an opportunity to get to know me, my style of writing and what I write.

I have decided to join I Write # FlashFiction and submit a piece of Flash
Fiction each or almost every week in either Paranormal, Fantasy or a Cross Genre.
Tomorrow will be my first post. I hope you will return to read it and hopefully feel
an emotional response to the post!

Click on the badge on the side bar to follow the link to the site to find out more details.
  • I have also discovered an interesting site today where one can find critique / beta reader partners.
 Ladies Who Critique

Just click on the title to learn more!

So I have signed up to give it a go. I am still looking for a critique partner if anyone is
         interested, let me know!
  •  While writing this post I received an email from Smashwords (my publishers) they have just published 5 Billion words! Isn't that awesome!

  • I have also just opened a Twitter account, you are welcome to follow me.  You can find the Tweet Link at the top of the page.
I hope you will return to read my first Flash Fiction piece which
I will be submitting tomorrow.  Thanks for stopping by,

Carolyn

Homesick upon the SS Perseid, Linia, a young linguist, thinks she signed up for a mission of peace, but her crew members have another plan: attack the planet Medusa.

Bored with his dying planet, Alezandros, a space cruiser pilot, joins the Medusan Army in his quest for adventure.

When the SS Perseid clashes with the Medusans’ space cruisers, Alezandros and Linia’s lives intertwine. Sucked through a wormhole, they crash upon a post-apocalyptic Earth and are captured by cannibals. In adjacent cells, Alezandros and Linia cast their differences aside for a common bond: escape. INSECURE WRITER'S SUPPORT GROUP

FIRST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH

IT IS TIME FOR

INSECURE WRITER'S SUPPORT GROUP
To find out more about this group,
visit:
(The Ninja Captain)
at
http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com.au

I sat watching my computer screen for quite some time, staring at its blankness, wondering what to write this month for IWSG. Then I decided that this month there really was nothing I needed to get off of my chest!

Then a thought hit me, there was one thing!

I absolutely hate it when blog followers leave no other details except an obscure photo and a name which leads nowhere!
It is so annoying!

The last couple of months I have been organizing my list of followers and trying to re-connect with the earlier ones, who at the time they followed my Blog, I did not understand how the process of blogging worked and being honest, did not really know what to do or how to do it!

I have also tried to visit followers who I unfortunately, at the time I may have neglected as I was busy committed with something else.

But, I have noticed as I tirelessly visit each one of my 278 followers, some of them do not have blogs or web pages to follow or possibly, they have not set up their Profile Pages correctly to allow others to return their follows.

The other possibility is that these people have set their blogs to 'private'.  I just do not understand why anyone would do this?  If you intend to visit other bloggers and you have set your profile to private, please understand that the people you visit and follow really do want to return your visit!

Guardian (Creepy Hollow, #1)

guardian
(Creepy Hollow #1)

by

 BLURB:
1. Receive assignment.
2. Save a life.
3. Sleep.
4. Repeat.

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until one of her assignments—a human boy who shouldn’t even be able to see her—follows her into the fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the fae realm. Easy, right? But Nate and Vi are about to land themselves in even bigger trouble—and it’ll take all Vi’s training to get them out alive.
