I sat watching my computer screen for quite some time, staring at its blankness, wondering what to write this month for IWSG. Then I decided that this month there really was nothing I needed to get off of my chest!
Then a thought hit me, there was one thing!
I absolutely hate it when blog followers leave no other details except an obscure photo and a name which leads nowhere!
It is so annoying!
The last couple of months I have been organizing my list of followers and trying to re-connect with the earlier ones, who at the time they followed my Blog, I did not understand how the process of blogging worked and being honest, did not really know what to do or how to do it!
I have also tried to visit followers who I unfortunately, at the time I may have neglected as I was busy committed with something else.
But, I have noticed as I tirelessly visit each one of my 278 followers, some of them do not have blogs or web pages to follow or possibly, they have not set up their Profile Pages correctly to allow others to return their follows.
The other possibility is that these people have set their blogs to 'private'. I just do not understand why anyone would do this? If you intend to visit other bloggers and you have set your profile to private, please understand that the people you visit and follow really do want to return your visit!

I had to unfollow someone the other day because they'd set their blog to 'invite only' when it never used to be. I wasn't invited :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm very bad at connecting with all the people I follow - I just don't have the capacity to interact with 150 people all at once. I don't think I'm cut out for the computer age!
It is a bit daunting, isn't it.
DeleteI have a few followers like that, but I know them so am able to keep in contact through email. Maybe look them up on FB or other social networks to connect there?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving a helpful comment Cate.
DeleteI can usually find the person by following the link in my email but not always from the picture. The link should track back to the same place in theory, so I think it might be a problem with the followers gadget.
ReplyDeleteCould be, it was suppose to be obsolete at the end of March, maybe it isn't working to its original capability.
DeleteI find the private profiles thing odd too. Of course there are some people who don't have blogs but still like to visit and comment on others - maybe that explains some of the links that go nowhere?
ReplyDeleteBeing short of time (as most of us are)I'm far more likely to visit a blog that I can find easily. If people comment on my blog ad I can track down their blog by clicking the name then I always visit and generally comment. If I can't easily find their blog I'll probably get sidetracked and forget to keep looking.
Yes, I think a lot of people would do the same Patsy. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteUnfortunately, it is that way with some profiles. I try to follow as best as possible as well...like following back here.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your 4th of July holiday!
Thanks for returning the visit Angela.
DeleteYes, it's difficult to return the follow when the little icon doesn't tie in with a blog. And that's so easy to fix in one's profile. If I have time, I do a Google search for the name, but I have many followers that I can follow back unless they also leave a comment.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to learn that I am not the only one to have these problems. Thanks for stopping by Alex.
DeleteI know what you mean. I have a few followers that I don't follow back because I couldn't figure out how to. Which stinks. I feel bad about it.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, by the way! :)
Thanks for stopping by Rachel, and it is also nice to meet you.
DeleteI have the same problem. I wish they could just give me a link. I'll try to Google them, but sometimes I can't find them. If I ever do that, call me out. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you can do the same for me too!
DeleteYep, I'm with you on this one! It sucks to want to return that follow or comment, only to click their name and be met with an empty blogger profile, or a Google+ page. Hey, hey, we're trying to interact here! Come on! :P
ReplyDeleteUsually, I'll try to make it easy when I'm commenting by signing with a link. Like so:
J.W.
Wish more would follow suit!
Yeah, I agree with the Google+. If the follower hasn't let you see any details it is very frustrating. I think Google+ will probably turn out to be very helpful eventually, we just have to wait until we all learn how to use it to its full potential.
DeleteThanks for stopping by J.W.
Hi Carolyn,
ReplyDeleteI've encountered the same problem. Some of those followers come from worldpress and I have to search for a way to follow them back. So if they have a twitter account it helps!
But like yourself, the private blogger are an enigma...
Lucie
PS: Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on IWSG.
DeleteIt's puzzling. I get the thing about being a blog reader but not a blogger. But most of the time these types of followers don't leave any comment either, so what is their motivation?
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly true. Nice to see you back again Nick and I must thank you for all the help you gave me with my recent problem. you are a true friend.
DeleteI'm completely with you on this! I want to at the very least stop by people's blogs who take the time to comment on mine, but it saddens me when they have no way to get to their blog. I don't understand the private blogs either.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is very annoying.
DeleteI also get annoyed when somebody visits and comments on my blog, but there's no link back to that commentor.
ReplyDeleteBut as one of the above commentors pointed out, there are some people who don't have blogs, but visit and comment on other blogs anyway.
Oh yes, I recognize that! I have even googled people to see if they had other places to connect so I could say thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Sylvia, nice to see you drop by again. Yes, but this cuts in to our very demanding time. It would be so much easier to just have a profile set up which can be easily connected to.
DeleteInteresting post. I have only been blogging since March and am still learning the ropes! I was wondering why some followers lead to dead ends too it can be frustrating. By the way I do have a blog if you care to visit sometime lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Suzanne, I hope you enjoy your blogging experience and I will visit your site soon.
DeleteI have to admit that it puzzles me, too, that some people don't put links to their blogs on their profiles. The most annoying thing is to click a link that goes to that Google circle thing and be told I'm not in the circle of the "friends" or the blogger hasn't "shared" anything with me yet. Huh? Bizarre.
ReplyDeleteYes Lexa, that really annoys me too! But, I must admit that I really do not know how to use Google+ properly yet.
DeleteI totally understand. And it's time consuming trying to figure out how to contact them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts Michael.
DeleteI agree! Part of the problem is the tug of war between Blogger and Wordpress. I moved my blog months ago but my photo takes you on a roundabout way to me. :( I could leave a link in my comments...but I always forget to. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for returning the visit Laura and leaving a comment.
DeleteThe Insecure Writers Support Group sounds like a great thing but every time I try to visit the site, my computer shuts it down saying there's harmful spam on it. Love your post, tho :) Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Writing,
M.J. Wille, author
Thanks Megan, I have let Alex know about this issue, he is an IT guy and is looking into it.
DeletePS Thanks for letting me know!
DeleteI don't get the whole private thing either. Are only exclusive people allowed to view? Whey even take the time to write a blog then? Weird.
ReplyDeleteI just do not understand why they write a blog if they do not wish to connect with people. It is totally weird.
DeleteThere are followers who don't have a blog or any contact info--which means I can't contact them at all.
ReplyDeleteTerea
Exactly! It is time consuming when you make the effort to connect, but all avenues lead to dead ends! Frustrating!
DeleteIt's a lot of work keeping up with blogs, I've cut down to one day a week, otherwise I'd get no writing done at all. Maybe some people are new to blogging and following others before they've worked out what they want to blog about?
ReplyDeleteCharmaine, you do have a point, when you are new to blogging it is a little daunting!
DeleteI know exactly how you feel! This is so frustrating!

Thanks for dropping by Gina.
DeleteI know right? My pet peeve is when I have to jump over numerous hoops just to comment on a post.
ReplyDeleteI know right? Another pet peeve of mine is when I have to jump through so many hoops just to post a comment.
